Sunday:
Arrival at Wallby Säteri at 15:00. You’ll leave your car here and get a lift to Outdoor Experience Småland’s nature camp next to lake Hjorten. The guide will be waiting for you in the guide’s own forest, where you’ll find everything you need for your 24 hours in the wilderness. With your guide, you’ll make a fire and cook a meal based on produce from nearby farms. You’ll hear unique local stories and get information about next day’s hike. After sundown, you can take a dip under the stars before snuggling into your sleeping bags in the cosy tent and falling asleep among the sounds of nature.
Monday:
After a hearty breakfast next to the campfire as the morning mist rises from the lake, you’ll pack your lunch and start the 14 kilometre hike along Smålandsleden, which goes through beautiful, magical forests and ancient cultural landscapes. The hike ends up up back at Wallby Säteri, where the Nyman family will welcome you. You’ll have your own cabin at the manor, where you can use the sauna and take a dip in Skirösjön. A three-course dinner made with seasonal produce is served in the dining hall.
Tuesday:
If you’re up bright and early, you can swim in the lake and visit the horses before enjoying a leisurely breakfast from the buffet. Then you’ll drive about 40 km on picturesque roads to Mariannelund for a full-day visit to the countryside where author Astrid Lindgren grew up and the locations of two of her best-loved films. With the owners of Cykla i Filmlandskapet Småland, you’ll go on a guided e-bike ride where you’ll learn about the local nature and cultural heritage, sample carefully selected local foods, hear unique stories and learn secrets about the films. Back at Wallby Säteri, another delicious three-course traditional meal awaits at the manor house.
Wednesday:
You can have breakfast in the garden if you like, before choosing the day’s excursion. You’ll get a picnic lunch from the kitchen. Based on your interests, the Nymans can recommend local cafés, farm shops, exhibitions, museums and sights in the area. You can, for example, visit a flea market, check out Filmbyn Småland, Sweden’s only children’s film museum, explore Virserum art museum, or go hiking in Norra Kvill national park. Or you might prefer to spend the day swimming or walking, boating on the lake, learning to fish or just relaxing in Wallby’s vast natural surroundings.
Thursday:
Enjoy yet another sumptuous breakfast at the manor before setting off to explore the vicinity. Maybe you’d like to visit Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home or explore the unique town of Eksjö with its wooden buildings. At 15:00 we’ll meet at the Trakt Forest Hotel, where the Sälleteg family have run a small-scale farm for four generations. The farm’s forest suites were designed by a world-famous architect and give a sense of being truly at one with nature. Explore the surroundings before enjoying a three-course meal in Timmerhuset based on produce from the farm and the forest. If you want, you can order a platter of local cheeses to be sent to the forest suite later in the evening.
Friday:
Wake up in a picturesque village in the forest and enjoy a breakfast of local produce.
Savour the peace and tranquility of the forest. You’ll get a seasonal packed lunch to take on your adventures. Go boating on the lake, stroll to a picturesque view point or discover one of the farm’s hiking trails. We’ll give an introduction to the area and show you the best places. You might find time for a sauna (book it when you arrive) before sitting down to a delicous dinner in Timmerhuset inspired by Småland traditions.
Saturday:
Enjoy another delicious breakfast before checking out and heading homewards, enriched with many new discoveries and memories.
