Bullerbyn
Astrid Lindgrens father Samuel August grew up in Mellangården in the 1800s. About 100 years later the three houses acted as coulisse to Lasse Hallströms movie The children of Noisy Village (Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn). Stop and enjoy the atmosphere, jump in the hay, say hello to animals at the farm and take a coffee at Café Sörgården.
Katthult
Ever since Olle Hellboms movie-team found the courtyard I Gibberyd people from all over the world has made a pilgrim to Emil's Katthult. The family has taken good care of the courtyard and the recognition factor is high. During summer, the courtyard has a lot of animals, a small store and a simple café.
Filmbyn Småland
Museum with recording landscapes, studio buildings and original suits from children's movies like Emil in Lönneberga, We on Seacrop Island and Pippi Longstocking. Visit the digital floor where you can create movies and sing songs of Astrid Lindgren. You will also find a restaurant, a store, and a big outdoor play environment. Emarps Kvarn
The local farmers milled their cereals to flour here and got the chance to meet and talk as a brief pause in the daily work. The last miller In Emarp dismantled his company in the 1970s and the mill is taken care of the daughter with family today.
Trollegata
A 250-meter long legendary ravine. One of the walls, Trollevägga, goes very steep towards the bottom of the street. Do not miss the exciting read at the information sign. The adventurer Göran Kropp used to train his climbing skills here.
Klyvesten
A big rock which you can walk through since it is cleaved in two parts. According to the story, a giant lady in Målem threw the rock to stop the noise from Pelarnes church-bells. The rock never reached its target due to a broken suspender.
Bråneholm
One of the movie-landscapes most beautiful rest areas, just next to Stångån. Bråneholms hand-paper factory was located here between 1814-1885 with a couple of employees. We can also watch the ruins of at least 10 buildings, among others the managing residence and the miller-residence.
Mariedahl
The small hand-paper factory Mariedahl was founded in 1815, was running to 1872 and burnt down in 1895. The factory produced paper from old clothes. Today, the ruins of the factory are left as well as the ground for the mill which was in drift to 1940.
Herrgårdsparken
A park with traces from the 1750s when general lieutenant Gustav Adolfs von Siegroth bought the courtyard Strömstorp and founded the park for his wife Mariana. As an explanation of love, he named the courtyard Marianalund which in 1913 became the town-name Mariannelund.
Mariannelunds Karamellkokeri
Prestigious candy-shop in central Mariannelund who has been producing confection, fudge and burnt almonds since 1929. Watch the craftmanship and visit the cosy, well-sorted boutique. A must du when being close to Mariannelund.
Stjernbergs skafferi
Mariannelunds most important meeting-space and the obvious choice for breakfast, coffee-breaks, and lunch. Newly baked bread from a self-owned bakery six days a week. You can also refill your pantry with things such as locally produced rapeseed oil to marmalade and apple juice.
Hässleby gård
A historical horse-farm beautifully put in between the detached blocks in Mariannelund. At the haymow the Swedish film industry let a team build up “the poor cottage” mess consisting of dirt and lice and starvation and misery in one coulisse. A lot of the "poor people" were played by village inhabitants.
Smedjegränd
At the red part of the outer house close to Julles mekaniska verkstad Alfred and Lina planned at the market to watch rings. “At least we are bracket people” Lina tried. The houses were repainted to look like store windows.
Mariannelunds folkhögskola
The auditorium of the school in Mariannelund became the main recording sight for Katthults in-house environment. Proficient carpenters and decoration-painters built up a time faithful coulisse of chambers and kitchens, with upsized photos of the view in Gibberyd outside of the windows.
Norra gatan – filmgatan
The inconspicuous corporate locals at Norra gatan 4 and 6 acted as recording sights for Snickerboa as well as “Doktorns mottagning in Mariannelund. Some of the most important scenes from the Emil-movies is recorded here. Read more and watch movie-clips using the QR-code at the place.
Hulta såg
When Emil is missing and all the guests go looking this is one of the places they end up at, close to the bridge over Silverån to look after the boy in stream in Katthult.
Näs
The 1700s courtyard Näs is not to be thought of as Astrid Lindgren's childhood home (located in Vimmerby). The scenes for the auction in Backhorva, where Emil does a couple of “crazy deals” and averts a fight are recorded here.
Hamphorva
The model of Backhorva is where Emil goes to an auction to do some crazy deals and drink soda. In the first house of the village, Astrid Lindgren's father Samuel August was born.
Ingebo hagar
Farmer's village with circular thinking and ancestries from the 1600s. Study solar cells, biological sewage plants and permacultural. You can also stay here, say hello to the animals and go shopping or drink some coffee in the courtyard store.
Visans skepp
Twenty big rocks with blasted lyrics from the 1900s are placed in the shape of a ship. Take a musical stop in the small society Storebro and sing some of our most beautiful Swedish lullabies. Bring a penny to the entry box.
In Högebro, west of Mariannelund, the road meets the railway and the watercourse. A power station was built here in 1926, which still produces electricity from hydropower. The beautiful and tranquil environment and excellent resting place during the Mariannelund tour.
The Kvill Oak
Sweden's oldest and largest oak, the 1000-year-old Kvilleken, is also one of the largest oaks in Europe. The circumference at chest height is 13 meters! Nowadays only part of the tree is alive. Found at Kvill nature reserve, about 10 km from Katthult. Feel free to make a detour!
Kroa
One of Mariannelund's oldest houses, Grindstugan, also known as Kroa. Today's owner Sture Enocson carefully manages his wife's grandparents' home and has been awarded Eksjö municipality's building conservation prize. Please respect that the house and garden are private.
Norra Kvill National Park
Småland's primeval forest with carpets of moss, large boulders, large old trees and water lily-covered ponds. The forest has been untouched for over 150 years. The third smallest of Sweden's 30 national parks. Located 11 km from Katthult. Join us for a guided walk!
